- According to PAGASA, fair weather and cloudy skies will prevail over the Philippines this weekend while the northeast monsoon continues to affect Northern and Central Luzon.
- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will review the economic team's recommendation to push through with higher fuel excise taxes next year, according to a Malacanang official. The President’s economic managers have withdrawn an earlier recommendation to suspend the second tranche of excise tax increase on petroleum products under the Republic Act No. 10963 or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.
- Jon Ramon Aboitiz, the chairman of Aboitiz Equity Venture and a pillar of the Aboitiz conglomerate, passed away at the age of 70. The Aboitiz patriarch, who is fondly called JRA by company executives and employees or Jon by colleagues in the business, had been very instrumental in growing the various businesses of the group. His net worth, according to Forbes 2018 report, was at US$265 million.
- Outgoing House Speaker Paul Ryan named immigration and the national debt as his two biggest regrets as he prepares to leave office after 20 years in Congress, saying he has no immediate plans to return to public office.
- Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen made a surprise appearance before a federal judge in New York on Thursday to plead guilty to lying to Congress about work he did on an aborted project to build a Trump Tower in Russia.
