THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Typhoon Kong-Rey is forecasted to pass across the Korean Peninsula



Typhoon Kong-rey is forecast to pass across the southern parts of the Korean Peninsula this weekend, bringing torrential rain and strong winds. Jeju-do Island will see up to 500mm of rain while the nation's eastern and southern regions will see up to 300mm.

On Friday, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon presided over a meeting at the country's disaster control center with relevant ministries to call on them to fully prepare for the storm. Lee called for the prevention of casualties and the inspections of facilities. The safety ministry also issued a warning alert.

Moving on, a group of 160 South Koreans are in Pyongyang to celebrate the 111th anniversary of the October 4th declaration. The main celebratory event started at 1000 hours this morning and ended at around 1130 hours.

A speech written jointly by Korean representatives from the South, the North, and overseas was read. Calling for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and expanding exchanges in all fields, while completely getting rid of threat of war and achieving denuclearization.

Before heading north of the border, Seoul's unification minister hinted there will be discussions on how to follow up on the latest September summit agreement and as Seoul's Vice Health Minister and Cultural Heritage Administrator are also there in the North, they too could meet with their North Korean counterparts ot discuss medical and cultural cooperation.
