- Typhoon Queenie may have left the Philippine Area of Responsibility but isolated rainshowers will prevail over the country due to localized thunderstorms. In the latest weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration issued Friday morning, Queenie is located at 825 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes outside PAR.

- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte cleared a Davao-based Chinese businessman who was tagged as a drug pusher. Duterte cleared the name of Michael Yang in a speech before the Philippine Military Academy alumni in Malacañang Thursday night.

Malacañang cannot determine if President Duterte is suffering from a serious illness following the Chief Executive’s recent admission about going to the hospital for a follow-up examination on Wednesday.

- SCOTUS nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh declared himself “independent, impartial” Thursday in a highly unusual plea following criticism of his performance at a Senate committee hearing on sexual assault allegations against him. Kavanaugh penned the defense of his performance during last week’s Judiciary Committee hearing at which he denied the allegations, made at the same hearing, of a California university professor.

- Russian leader Vladimir Putin was expected Friday to sign a deal in India worth more than $5 billion for the S-400 air defense system, despite US warnings of sanctions against countries buying Russian military hardware.

- The Japanese city of Osaka has cut ties with San Francisco over a statue in the US city memorializing comfort women. Osaka had announced its plan to end the 60-year relationship in 2017 after San Francisco accepted the donated memorial to women forced into wartime sex slavery by Japanese forces.

- Peugeot became the next carmaker to halt development of diesel engines until the market stabilizes. There is a chance that they French carmaker will pull the plug if demand continues to fall.

- Former Audi CEO Rupert Stadler is officially sacked by the Volkswagen Group due to his ongoing pre-trial detention, with immediate effect. This has been done because Stadler is unable to fulfil his duties as a board member and wishes to focus on his trial defence, the company said.

- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady became third NFL player in history to throw 500 touchdown passes following their game against the Indianapolis Colts.

- The Chronicles of Narnia will spawn a TV series by Netflix as well as new films in the franchise.

- Romnick Sarmenta and Harlene Bautista are now divorced after 19 years.
