- Two police officials are planning to meet with heads and administrators of colleges and universities that were tagged as hotbeds of New People's Army recruitment. This, as some of officials and student leaders of the schools earlier named by the military as among the recruitment grounds of the Communist movement cried foul over what they perceived as red-tagging and attempt to curtail academic press freedom.

- The Department of the Interior and Local Government wants the province of La Union to be placed and included in the list of election hotspots for next year's polls. DILG officer-in-charge Eduardo Año issued the recommendation to the Commission on Election following Monday’s ambush that killed Mayor Alexander Buquing of Sudipen and two of his companions.

- The United States Embassy in the Manila, through the USAID announced a P250-million three-year extension of USAID’s Science, Technology, Research, and Innovation for Development project. In a statement, the US Embassy said the additional assistance aims to expand collaboration between government, industry, and academia on initiatives that promote innovation and support inclusive growth.

- US Vice President Mike Pence warned China that the United States will not back down from what Washington sees as Chinese intimidation in the South China Sea. Pence will deliver an 11 a.m. (1500 GMT) address at the Hudson Institute think tank in Washington likely to increase tensions between the United States and China beyond trade disputes that have dominated President Donald Trump’s time in office.

- An Italian court sentenced a man to 12 years in jail for shooting and wounding six African migrants in a racially motivated attack in the central city of Macerata. Luca Traini, 29, went on the shooting spree on Feb. 3 in what he said was revenge for the death of a young Italian woman, who was allegedly killed and dismembered by a Nigerian man just days earlier.

- German Chancellor Angela Merkel began a visit to Israel on Wednesday, with Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict among issues on the agenda in talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

- Mini and Rolls-Royce will halt production in the United Kingdom due to Brexit.

- At the Paris Motor Show, Vietnam's first carmaker, Vinfast was born with two maiden models; the LUX A2.0 saloon and the LUX SA2.0 crossover. The BMW-derived models will go on sale in June 2019.

- Malaysia's new national car will be released in 2020 with a model name to be revealed at the end of the year and the prototype out early 2019.

- Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are writing and directing the previously announced film project of the Rockman (Mega Man) franchise.

- Erik Matti will no longer directing the new Darna film.

- Shaira Diaz recalls unexpected job loss in TV5.
