- The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Operations Center is now on blue alert status to closely monitor the possible effects of Typhoon Rosita (international name Yutu).
- Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo rejects proposals to abolish the party-list system. Robredo, a lawyer, said she is opposed to the abolition of all party-lists because she believes the system still has good intent.
- After the reopening of Boracay, crime incidents are expected to rise in the famed resort-island because of the increased human activities but the Philippine National Police has reiterated that they are prepared to secure the visitors and locals in the area.
- A gunman yelling, “All Jews must die,” stormed a Pittsburgh synagogue during Saturday services, killing 11 worshippers and wounding six other people including four police officers, before he was arrested.
- The chances of Brazil’s leftist presidential candidate Fernando Haddad narrowing the lead of right-wing front-runner Jair Bolsonaro took a hit when he failed to win a crucial endorsement on Saturday, a day before the two face off in a runoff election.
- The leaders of Russia, Germany, France and Turkey stressed the importance on Saturday of a lasting ceasefire in Syria, and said a committee to create a new constitution should meet by the end of the year.
