- Typhoon "Kong-rey" has further intensified before its entry into the Philippine Area of Responsibility, according to PAGASA. The location of the typhoon is estimated at 1,515km east of Central Luzon or still outside the PAR around 1000 hours Monday. When arrived, it will be labeled Queenie.
- The Armed Forces of the Philippines yesterday warned that despite then exposing a plot to unseat President Rodrigo Duterte from power, the communist side is still pushing through with their plan. AFP Assistant Deputy Chief for Operations Brig. Gen. Antonio Parlade said that aside from Oplan Aklasan, the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army, are also planning to conduct what he calls Daluyong Manggagawa where peasants and workers will take part in social unrest.
- The Philippine Navy Landing Dock Ship, BRP Tarlac with Helicopter Detachment Afloat entered the Russian waters Ostrov Askol’d Island, Russia, at the vicinity of Mys Yelagina for a port visit to Vladivostok, Russia.
- Over 800 people died in last week's earthquake and tsunami that hit Sulawesi, Indonesia, last weekend.
- Two people died in a powerful typhoon that battered Japan over the weekend as the storm's aftermath brought travel chaos to Tokyo's morning commute. By Monday morning, Typhoon Trami had cleared Japan, but its powerful winds and heavy rainfall caused damage that blocked roads and train lines.
- The International Court of Justice will hand down an eagerly awaited decision this week on Iran’s demand for the suspension of debilitating nuclear-related sanctions imposed by the United States.
- China canceled a security meeting with US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis that had been planned for October, according to a US official, days after a top Chinese official said there was no reason to panic over tensions between the countries.
- Tesla and Elon Musk have agreed to pay $20 million each to the US Securities and Exchange Commission under a settlement with the regulator, but the bigger news is that Musk – the face of the electric car maker and brains behind it – will step down as chairman. He will remain as the CEO, though.
