THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: President Moon addresses North Korea progress at UN
Addressing UN member nations on the last leg of his trip to New York, South Korean President Moon Jae-in has brought the international community up to speed on North Korea.
The South Korean president, for the first time on the UN stage, referred to bringing an official end to the Korean War, saying "ending the Korean War is a pressing issue, and something that must be achieved in order to reach our ultimate goal of peace."
President Moon revealed his administration's plans to utilize the joint economic potential of the two Koreas, and touched upon humanitarian issues, saying Korea, which suffered under Japan's wartime system of sexual enslavement, will be front and center of stamping out sexual violence in the region,
In the meantime, at a meeting with Thomas Bach, president of the IOC at the UN headquarters in New York, President Moon discussed a joint Korean bid for the 20320 Summer Games, emphasizing the need to take an early first step on the issue, and he asked for the world's support to pursue a joint bid with Pyongyang.
Bach replied that the IOC is always open to the idea of having an early dialogue and said the co-hosting of the 2032 Olympics would complete the circle that began at PyeongChang.
The two also discussed ways to field unified teams in a range of sports at the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
