THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: President Moon named his top security adviser as special envoy

On Sunday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in named his top security adviser as special envoy to North Korea to work out the details for the third summit between President Moon and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Chung Eui-yong, head of the presidential National Security Office, will head a five-member delegation including Sh Hoon, chief of the National Intelligence Service to North Korea that is set to leave for Pyongyang on Wednesday.

As for why the visit will only last a day, the Blue House said unlike their first visit in March, the two Koreas have built trust since then, making a one-day visit possible.

Consisting of the same members, their main agenda is to convince Pyongyang and Washington, who are locked in a stalemate, to start making some concessions to get diplomacy moving again.

Meanwhile, Washington's new special envoy for North Korea will soon visit its allies in Northeast Asia.

The local news outlet YTN reported that Stephen Biegun will soon embark on his trip to Seoul and Tokyo.

His South Korean counterpart is the special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs in the foreign affairs ministry, Le Do-hoon.

According to CNBC, Brett Bruen, former White House director of global engagement said although Biegun is an unconventional politician who lacks much foreign policy experience, he may have the ability to talk with President Donald Trump and to convey the complexity of the denuclearizartion negotiation to the president.
