- Typhoon Paeng (Trami) may have slowly exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility but a new weather disturbance was spotted near Mindanao and it is expected to enter the country by Tuesday. In the latest PAGASA bulletin, Paeng is located at 695km east northeast of Basco, Batanes.

- The Malacanang Palace defends President Duterte's latest remark about his administration's role behind the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines. Duterte, in a speech in Malacañang Thursday, said that his critics cannot tie him to corruption as his only sin are the supposed EJKs being linked to him ever since he was still mayor of Davao City.

- The camp of embattled Senator Antonio Trillanes IV expressed plans to seek anew the Supreme Court should the Makati court order the arrest of the lawmaker on the basis of the voiding of his amnesty.

- There has been emotions and outrage as Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh angrily denied allegations of sexual misconduct and called his confirmation process a "national disgrace" during testimony before a Senate committee Thursday. One of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, spoke and answered questions earlier in the day. She said she was “one hundred percent” certain that President Trump’s nominee was the man who attacked her when she was 15.

- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Tehran of harboring a secret atomic warehouse, making deft use of ample props and vowing that his country would never let Iran develop nuclear weapons. Iran “hasn’t abandoned its goal to develop nuclear weapons,” Benjamin Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly, where his annual appearance has frequently focused on Israel’s chief enemy, the Islamic republic.

- All of the passengers and crew have survived the crash landing of the plan Friday morning in a Pacific lagoon. The Air Niugini plane hit the water short of the runway while trying to land at Chuuk Island in the Federated States of Micronesia, according to the airline.

- The former governor of Mexico's Gulf coast state of Veracruz pleaded guilt to charges of organized crime and money laundering, and received a nine-year sentence, prosecutors said Thursday. The plea deal reached with Javier Duarte was an anti-climactic end to Mexico’s highest-profile corruption case in recent years and sparked anger among critics since he can apply for parole in as little as three years.
