- Vice President Leni Robredo asked the public to be more prepared on the impact of typhoon Ompong that may bring more rain than Ondoy. Robredo, a former housing chief, said Filipinos in the areas to be affected by Ompong should take the necessary precautionary measures as the weather disturbance could become a super typhoon.

- With disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts switched to the “highest level,” the government has readied P1.7 billion worth of relief assistance for communities that will be affected by a potential super typhoon.

- Two ranking leaders of Congress are supporting President Rodrigo Duterte's call to abolish the National Food Authority Council, the policy-making body of the agency in charge with securing the country’s rice supply.

- German activists living in treehouses to protect an ancient forest from being razed for a nearby coal mine were bracing for a forced eviction by police. Hundreds of police officers descended on the area in the early morning, after local authorities ordered the Hambach Forest in western Germany to be cleared immediately citing fire hazards.
