- Typhoon Mangkhut has further intensified while enhancing the habagat and moving closer to the country on Wednesday morning, according to PAGASA. In its latest weather forecast, PAGASA said Mangkhut is last located already at 1,390 kilometers east of Southern Luzon while moving slightly slower westward at 20 kilometers per hour. The typhoon has strengthened again and now packs maximum sustained winds of up to 200 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 245 kilometers per hour.

- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte stressed that his signature campaign against illegal drugs and corruption is difficult but will continue as promised. Appearing on government television Tuesday, the President said he would be unforgiving in the fight against drugs and would continue to weed out corruption in government.

- Senator Antonio Trillanes IV won't leave the Senate premises following the Supreme Court ruling on his petition against the voiding of his amnesty. Trillanes said his colleagues have advised him not to leave yet as he stood pat on his claim that the order for the Armed Forces of the Philippines to arrest him remains.

- Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland announced a breakthrough in tense talks with the United States on a revamped continental trade pact, saying a new deal was now “imminently possible.”

China is planning to ask the World Trade Organization next week for permission to impose more than $7 billion in sanctions annually on the United States over anti-dumping practices. The WTO said Tuesday that a special meeting of its Dispute Settlement Body would be convened on September 21 to discuss developments in a five-year-old trade dispute.

- A U.S. judge struck down a nearly century-old California law that banned handgun ads at gun shops, saying the state failed to show it would prevent suicides or crime.

- The head of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics says he favors moving to daylight saving time so sports events can be held in cooler temperatures.

- Lexus will introduce Digital Outer Mirrors on the new ES sedan this fall. It uses cameras and screens as side view mirrors.

- For F1 2019, Kimi Raikkonen will now race for Sauber as Charles Leclerc will be taking over his place for Ferrari.

- Edoardo Mortara will remain as driver for the Venturi Racing Team, joining alongside Felipe Massa on the upcoming Season 5 of FIA Formula E.

- The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE crossover was unveiled before its Paris Motor Show premiere next month. It rides on the new Modular High Architecture platform and the choice of engines include a 6-cylinder engine with 48V mild hybrid powertrain. It even comes with E-Active Body Control.
