As the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series draws to a conclusion, its penultimate race of the season, the Grand Prix of Portland, delivered a pulse-pounding thrills in the Pacific Northwest while the endgame delivered an upset result no one saw it coming.

Will Power leads the drivers to the green flag following his 54th career pole but Zach Veach and James Hinchcliffe triggered a massive crash in the opener, with Marco Andretti got airborne and Eddie Jones and Graham Rahal retired from the race after being caught in the big one. Scott Dixon survived the crashed and soldiered on. When the race restarted, Power continues his lead until a loss of power ended his lead while at turn seven, leaving Rossi and the others zooming past through Will Power. In Lap 38, Dixon's having a bad day after a pit stop as he was caught speeding and forced to serve a drive-through penalty while Will Power thrown caution as he got crashed at the tyre barrier after turns 11 and 12. On a Lap 47 restart, Rossi's got overtaken by Josef Newgarden for the lead. Another caution triggered as Zach Veach's car couldn't control and went off course and then another one as Santion Ferruchi stopped on track.

Takuma Sato nicked his third career win and the first for this season after fending off Ryan Hunter-Reay and Sebastien Bourdais to the end.

After Portland, Dixon remains in the lead at 598 points, 29 points ahead of Alexander Rossi and 87 points ahead of Will Power.
