THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: US stands ready for North Korea's commitment
At a briefing held Tuesday, the State Department spokesperson Heather Bauert said the US stands ready to engage when it is clear that North Korea is prepared to deliver on the commitments it made at the June 12th Singapore summit to completely denuclearize.
This comes after Wahsington Post report claimed that Trump canceled Pompeo's trip due to a belligerent letter from a senior North Korean official.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that the letter stated Pyongyang felt talks couldn't move forward because "the US is still not ready to meet with North Korea's expectations Pyongyang has been urging Washington to declare the end of the Korean War.
Meanwhile. during the press conference, the US Secretary of Defense James Mattis said no decisions has been made about joint military exercises with South Korea for next year and the US military also has no plans to suspend them.
In response, South Korea's foreign ministry said today that it understands Mattis' comments as an extension of Washington's previous agreement with Seoul to suspend the joint exercises, and that no new agreement has been made.
Seoul added that it will continue to work closely with the US with unwavering commitment toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
