- The Philippine Navy successfully test-fired its first Spike-ER surface-to-surface missile on board the MPAC MKIII during the Sea Acceptance Test off Lamao Port in Limay, Bataan. Commander Jonathan V. Zata, Director of the Naval Public Affairs Office, said the Philippine Navy, together with teams from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and the Technical Inspection and Acceptance Committee of the Department of National Defense , oversaw the test firing activity that included the SAT for the Mini Typhoon Machine Gun System and SAT for the Spike-Extended Range Missile Launching System.
- PH President Rodrigo Duterte is committed to sustain his environmental protection policies even at the risk of a further economic slowdown, according to a Palace official. Although the government was saddened its missed its growth target for the second quarter, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said the President offers no apologies for giving “higher priority” to the protection of the country’s environment.
- The Malacanang said the Philippines looks forward to better relationship with the UNHRC under its new chief. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement following the appointment of former Chile President Michelle Bachelet as new UN human rights chief.
- The death toll from the Lombok quake last weekend has reached to 164, according to agencies as survivors wait for aid. Relief efforts have yet to reach parts of the island four days after the quake hit, Indonesian authorities said, as hopes fade of finding further survivors among the wreckage.
- Mexico's NAFTA negotiators looked to move toward settling the most complicated issues at hand as they resumed talks with US officials in Washington. Foreign minister Luis Videgaray, economics minister Ildefonso Guajardo and his successor Jesus Seade met with their US counterparts for the third week running — and said talks would continue Thursday morning.
- Defense attorneys for Donald Trump’s former campaign chief Paul Manafort, on trial for tax and bank fraud, attacked the credibility of the key prosecution witness as he wrapped up three days of grueling testimony on Wednesday. Rick Gates, Manafort’s long-time deputy, acknowledged having made “many mistakes over many years” but insisted he was telling the court the truth about the alleged financial misdeeds of his former boss.
