- The Philippine government is prepared to blacklist jeepney operators and drivers who will misuse fuel subsidy card to purchase products other than fuel. LTFRB chair Martin Delgra III said they would not tolerate any misuse of the fuel subsidy card, adding that violators would lose the benefit and would be asked to refund the money.
- The Department of Health urged the Senate to pass its version of the bill appropriating P1.16 billion as supplemental for assistance to children inoculated with the anti-dengue virus vaccine Dengvaxia. “We are making an appeal in behalf of the children vaccinated with Dengvaxia who are the intended beneficiaries of this supplemental budget. We are urging our honorable senators to pass the Senate version of the bill,” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque.
- Vice President Leni Robredo hopes newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Teresita de Castro will be a "unifying figure" to restore public trust in the High Court. Robredo, a lawyer, said she wants De Castro would be able to use her short stint as Chief Justice to regain the integrity of the SC and strengthen the institution.
- Myanmar rejected the findings of a UN probe alleging genocide by its military against the Rohingya, in a strident government response to a damning report on the crisis. Myanmar has come under immense pressure this week over last year’s military crackdown that pushed more than 700,000 of the Muslim minority into Bangladesh.
- Iran's intelligence minister said that dozens of spies had been arrested as part of a crackdown on espionage and dual nationals. “Financially and through other means, our enemies try to get information on our country,” Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said in an interview on state television.
- A giant statue of a child wearing a radiation suit in the Japanese city of Fukushima will be removed after it sparked a huge controversy in the nuclear-hit area. Fukushima city mayor Hiroshi Kohata said the statue intended to be a symbol of reconstruction had ended up being divisive.
- For the first time in five decades, a NASA astronaut candidate has resigned from training, accoring to the US space agency. Robb Kulin resigned from NASA effective August 31 for personal reasons, spokeswoman Brandi Dean said, declining to provide further details.
Aisin and Denso announced plans to establish a new joint venture company to develop and sell electrification driving modules. Both companies will have an equal 50% share in the new entity, which is expected to be launched in March next year.
