- Teresita Leonardo-de Castro takes oath as the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. De Castro was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte and will assume on the 28th.

- Presidential peace adviser Jesus Dureza emphasized the importance of getting the support of the people in establishing the new Bangsamoro region in Mindanao. “Napakahalaga ang tulong ng Liga ng mga Barangay, dahil kailangan natin ang suporta (The support of the Liga ng mga Barangay is very important because we need the support) from the ground,” Dureza said in a video message to barangay leaders attending the “Forum on the Bangsamoro Organic Law with the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas Mindanao Chapter: Partners in Promoting Peace in the Bangsamoro” held at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

- The Department of Finance is open to the proposal of Quirino lone district Rep. Dakila Cua to allow the donation of confiscated smuggled rice to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, which could then use it to aid victims of recent flooding.

- A proposal to rename the Russel Senate Office building after the late Senator John McCain appears to be gaining bipartisan support, but success is far from assumed. The 109-year-old building is named after Sen. Richard Russell, a Georgia Democrat who, like McCain, chaired the Armed Services Committee. Russell, who died in 1971, was a segregationist and led Southern opposition to anti-lynching bills and other civil rights legislation in the 1950s and 1960s.

- The United States and Mexico agreed on a thoroughly overhauled free trade pact, while talks with Canada are to begin Tuesday. “It’s a big day for trade. It’s a really good deal for both countries,” President Donald Trump said in announcing the agreement from the Oval Office, with Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto participating by telephone.

- Iran warned that re-imposed U.S. sanctions would cripple its economy and plunge the volatile Middle East deeper into crisis as it urged the United Nations’ highest court to suspend the Trump administration’s economic pressure on Tehran.

- Fiat unveiled the 500X minor change.

- Mercedes-Benz will unveil the EQC electric crossover on the 4th of September.

- Toyota Motor Corporation will expand its collaboration with Uber as part of efforts to develop and market autonomous ride-sharing as a mobility service at scale.
