- Supporters and relatives of the late Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino gathered at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City in commemorating his 35th death anniversary. Present were former President Noynoy Aquino, Senators Franklin Drilon, Kiko Pangilinan and Antonio Trillanes IV. Former cabinet member and running mate of Noynoy, Mar Roxas was also present.
- Tropical cyclone Soulik has further intensified into a typhoon and will continue to enhance the habagat that is affecting the western part of Luzon. Before Tuesday noon, PAGASA estimated the location of Soulik at 1,300 kilometers (km) northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
- Barely two months after the alleged misencounter between soldiers and policemen in Samar that left six cops dead and nine others wounded, the Board of Inquiry has yet to submit the result of its findings to the leadership of the Philippine National Police.
- Taiwan vowed to fight China’s “increasingly out of control” behavior after Taipei lost another ally to Beijing when El Salvador became the third country to switch allegiances to China this year. Taiwan now has formal relations with only 17 countries worldwide, many of them small, less developed nations in Central America and the Pacific, including Belize and Nauru.
- The Italian government is working on penalties against Atlantia following the fatal bridge collapse in Genoa, according to Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. “This file (on penalties) is in my bag and has been traveling with me these last few days,” Conte said in an interview in Il Corriere della Sera.
- Several explosions were heard in the diplomatic district of the Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday, but there was no immediate information on casualties, Reuters witnesses and a security official said.
- With less than three months before the mid-term elections, officials in Randolph County are trying to silence thousands of voters as the local Board of Elections wants to eliminate 7 of 9 polling sites in the country -- hitting areas with many low income voters and black voters the hardest. The Board will vote on this controversial proposal on the 24th of August.
