- PH President Rodrigo Duterte says that only either Senator Francis Escudero or former Senator Bongbong Marcos can replace him and not Vice President Leni Robredo. Duterte made the statement as he reiterated that was already tired, and expressed doubt that he could still fulfill his promise to purge corruption in government.

- The Civil Service Commission announced that the eligibility card will be available for passers of the May 3 Career Service Examination Paper and Pencil Test, August 16 Fire Officer exam, and October 18 CSE-PPT (except the NCR), but clarified that the eligibility card will specifically be available to passers of three specific tests administered in 2015.

- US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim said that the US government is working closely with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and his team to return the Balangiga bells to the Philippines.

- An Australian politician was widely condemned after demanding a "final solution" to immigration and calling for a return to the White Australia policy which favored "European Christians." Queensland senator Fraser Anning stunned lawmakers when he invoked during his maiden speech the infamous Nazi phrase used under Adolf Hitler in reference to annihilating Jewish people from Europe.

- Japanese Emperor Akihito expressed “deep remorse” about his nation’s wartime acts, as Tokyo marked the 73rd anniversary of the end of World War II. The carefully choreographed annual ceremony is the last Akihito and his wife Empress Michiko will attend before the emperor abdicates in April.

- Christine Hallquist won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in the US state of Vermont on Tuesday, moving a step closer to becoming the nation’s first transgender governor, US media projected. In addition, Somali-American state legislator Ilhan Omar claimed victory in her primary in Minnesota, putting her on track to become one of the first female Muslim members of the US House of Representatives.

- Fernando Alonso announced that he will retire from Formula 1 after the 2018 season.

- McLaren's MSO presented two bespoke 720S models with the Track Theme and Pacific Theme.



- Eduard Uspensky, the writer and creator of Cheburashka, passed away at the age of 80 due to cancer.
