- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte directed newly appointed government officials to shun corruption and excessive foreign travels. Addressing the 178 government officials who took their oath in Malacañang last Monday, the President said government workers must provide “excellent public service” and become “instruments of fairness, transparency, and justice”
- The passage of the proposed 2019 P3.757 trillion national budget in the Senate appears headed for a slow down as lawmakers disagree on whether a cash-based or obligation-based system should be adopted.
- Former Sta. Monica Mayor Rosalinda Penera of Surigao del Norte faces graft charge before the Sandiganbayan First Division due to her involvement with the reported irregularities in the disbursement of funds for the municipality’s Core Shelter Assistance Project worth P980,000.
- Under the sweeping new law signed by US President Donald Trump, more than 70,000 students in Pentagon-run schools now receive the same legal protections as their U.S. public school counterparts. The schools also must overhaul their system for tracking and addressing assault allegations.
- President Donald Trump on Monday plunged himself into a made-for-TV spat with his former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman — a mud-slinging match that has fuelled fears of chaos in his White House and cast doubt on his pledge to hire “only the best people.” Manigault Newman, who first gained fame at Trump's TV show, The Apprentice, released a recording of a private conversation she had with the president after she was fired.
- White House national security adviser Michael Bolton met on Monday with Turkish ambassador to the US to discuss Turkey's detention of American pastor Andrew Brunson, according to the White House. U.S. officials said no deadline had been set for Brunson’s release, contradicting some media reports. Brunson is accused of backing a coup attempt against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan two years ago, charges that he has denied.
