- Two revenue district officers in Metro Manila were reportedly kidnapped and subsequently released after the kidnappers took away large sum of cash and other valuables last week, according to the BIR. Several revenue officials, who requested anonymity, confirmed the kidnap-for-ransom incidents but could not say how much was stolen as the victims did not report the crime to the police for fear of reprisal and possibly being questioned later for the sources of the stolen cash.
- The Israeli Embassy and the non-profit organization Pass It Forward have turned over to the Philippine Red Cross a first-of-its-kind high-technology water purification system that can be used to provide drinking water, especially during natural disasters.
- PH President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a new batch of government officials, including two career diplomats as the country’s ambassadors to Germany and Denmark.
- Russia vows to retaliate against "unacceptable" new US sanctions against Russia over its alleged role in a nerve agent attack on a former spy in Britain, which prompted the ruble and Russian stocks to tumble. The action by the US State Department is the latest salvo in a series of disputes between the rival powers and comes less than a month after US President Donald Trump met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.
- US Vice President Mike Pence unveiled details of plans to build a US Space Force that would become the sixth branch of America’s massive military, saying the time has come to prepare for “the next battlefield.” President Donald Trump ordered the creation of Space Force in June, arguing the Pentagon needs it to tackle vulnerabilities in space and assert US dominance in orbit.
- An attack on a bus at a market in rebel-held northern Yemen killed at least 29 children Thursday, the Red Cross said, as the Saudi-led coalition faced a growing outcry over the strike.
- Israel and Gazan militants engaged in a new exchange of fire Thursday after a brief pause in deadly hostilities, with a strike flattening a building in the Palestinian enclave and a rocket landing deep inside the Jewish state.
- Mazda, Suzuki, and Yamaha have been discovered to conduct improper fuel economy and emissions tests on their vehicles in Japan, according to reports.
