THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: President Moon called for sincere efforts for N. Korea denuclearization

South Korean president Moon Jae-in called for sincere efforts on all sides to move the North Korean denuclearization process forward, insisting that its leader Kim Jong-un is determined to turn his country into a normal state.

Moon said this in a special lecture hosted by the Institute of South East Asian Studies in Singapore.

President Moon said "If Chairman Kim Jong-un keeps his promise to abandon its nuclear weapons, he may be able to lead his country to prosperity."

According to the Cheong Wa Dae, Friday's lecture was the 42 of its kind to be given by a visiting foreign leader, Moon is only the second South Korean head of state after the late former president Kim Dae-jung to speak in the so-called Singapore lecture.

Meanwhile, President Moon says North Korea, US denuclearization talks are on the right track although it may take some time.

He made the remarks during his bilateral summits with the president and prime minister of Singapore on day two of his three-day state visit there.

The South Korean leader carefully predicted that the June 12th summit may lead to success if North Korea implements complete denuclearization and the international community join efforts to guarantee security for the North.

President Moon said "We concurred on the need to strengthen coordination regarding regional peace and stability." In response, Prime Minister of Singapore said "constructive dialogue is necessary in order to achieve the peace and stability in the Peninsula."
