- Tropical depression Inday has slightly intensified as it moves northeast, enhancing the habagat that will bring moderate to heavy rains in most of Luzon on Friday. In its 0300 hour forecast, PAGASA said Inday was last observed at 995km east northeast of Basco, Batanes with maximum winds of 85kph near the center and gusts of 105kph, while moving at 15kph.

- A top legal counsel of President Rodrigo Duterte assures that the public can expect that the Chief Executive will stay true to his promises. Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo made the statement a few days before Duterte reports to the people his achievements and plans during his third State of the Nation Address on Monday.

- Senators condemned the recent killing of a broadcaster in Legazpi City in Albay early this Friday morning. Joey Llana, a radio broadcaster in 92.3 FM Home Radio station was reportedly shot to death by unknown assailants in Barangay Peñafrancia in Daraga town.

- The Trump administration proposed sweeping changes to the 45-year-old Endangered Species Act which would roll back protections for endangered species, alarming most environmentalists.

- Ryan Bounds, Trump's nominee to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, was shelved by the White House. Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell and Chuck Grassley, had steamrolled Bounds through the confirmation process over the objections of both of his home state senators, which is unheard for longstanding Senate tradition. McConnell couldn't muster the votes to confirm Bounds because of the nominee's long and troubling record of disregard for the experiences of people of color, the LGBTQ community, and sexual assault survivors.

- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi backed an ongoing regional bid to resolve the South Sudan conflict yesterday as he praised Khartoum for hosting peace talks between the country's warring groups. Sisi, who arrived in Khartoum for a two-day visit, said the peace talks in the Sudanese capital were aimed at achieving peace and stability in neighboring South Sudan, where tens of thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced since a brutal civil war erupted in December 2013.

- The top security bodies of the United Nations and the African Union on Thursday called for a peaceful transfer of power following elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo this year.

- Lewis Hamilton renews his contract for the Mercedes F1 team for another two years. In addition, Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull's Max Verstappen renew contracts as well.

- The Renaultsport Megane IV receives a more hardcore Trophy variant with bi-material front brake discs, specific 19-inch 'Jerez' alloy wheels and high performance Bridgestone tyres, which can be paired with new, exclusive lighter wheels that reduce total unsprung weight by 8kg.
