THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Kim Jong-un's top aide ended US trip

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's top aide, Kim Yong-choi, ended his four-day US visit during which he met with US President Donald Trump.

Kim Yong-choi left New York City late Saturday afternoon, local time, and arrived in Beijing on Sunday enroute back to Pyongyang. Kim is said to have spent the night at the North's Embassy in Beijing and will fly back on Monday. He had arrived in New York City last Wednesday and then held two days of meetings with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that included a working dinner on Wednesday and high-level talks on Thursday.

On Friday, he visited the White House and delivered a personal letter to President Trump from Kim Jong-un, after which President Trump announced that the US-North Korea summit is back.

In the meantime, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha talked on the phone with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday. During the 15-minute talk Monday morning, Pompeo briefed Kang on the results of North Korea's top envoy Kim Yong-choi's US trip.

The two top diplomats also exchanged views on the upcoming US-North Korea summit and agreed to keep cooperating, even after the summit, to achieve peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
