- Former Department of Health secretary Janette Garin states there is nothing anomalous in a project of the DOH involving the construction of 5,700 barangay health stations across the country. “If it was anomalous, why did (former DOH secretary Paulyn) Ubial extend the contract?... I dare Secretary (Francisco) Duque to file cases against Ubial who extended... the said anomalous contract,” Garin said yesterday.
- The Supreme Court junked the bid of the Presidential Commission on Good Government to recover 51 billion pesos from the estates of the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos and his cronies that they allegedly acquired through behest loans. In a 28-page decision promulgated last April 4, the high court’s First Division dismissed the petition of PCGG seeking reversal of the August 2010 ruling of the Sandiganbayan that junked its civil suit.
- Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said yesterday the contract of the questioned “World’s Strongest Man” competition is now being reviewed by the Commission on Audit. In the weekly forum Kapihan sa Manila Bay on Wednesday, Puyat reiterated that the contract on the competition is under review because the payment should not be in dollars.
- The United States has withdrawn from the UN Human Rights Council, calling it a "cesspool of political bias". The "hypocritical and self-serving" body "makes a mockery of human rights", said US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley.
- Torrential rain is hitting the island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan. The Meteorological Agency has issued a landslide warning for some areas of Oita and Kumamoto prefectures in northern and central Kyushu. They say southern Kyushu may also be hit by torrential rain through Thursday evening.
- The Taliban resumed fighting across Afghanistan after a 3-day truce. The Taliban and the Afghan government suspended fighting for 3 days through Sunday. The period coincided with the Eid festival that marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting.
