- PNP Chief PDG Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa denounces the CBCP for "monopolizing" holiness. According to the CBCP, cops bringing bibles and rosaries in their implementation of the Oplan Tokhang is just for theatrics.

- The Bureau of Customs, as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte, has commenced the destruction of 61 million pesos worth of smuggled luxury cars. Previously, Duterte said that the destruction of luxury cars was meant to send a message to wealthy car enthusiasts who do not pay right import duties.

- Warplanes launched heavy attacks on the two last major rebel-held areas in Syria, killing 29 people in the Ghouta suburb near Damascus and choking people with gas in Idlib in the northwest, according to rescue workers and a war monitor. President Bashar al-Assad’s government has vowed to retake all of Syria from rebels who have lost large swaths of the territory they have held in a war now entering its eighth year.

- As the PyeongChang Winter Olympics draws near, evidence against Russian athletes was strong enough to merit sanctions despite its rejection by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The CAS said last week that there was “insufficient evidence” of anti-doping violations against 28 Russian athletes banned for life by the IOC as part of its investigation into doping at the Winter Olympics four years ago.

- The legislation to help DREAMers struggled to gain footing in the U.S. Congress on Monday, but there were no signs yet that failure to pass such a bill would trigger a rerun of January’s three-day partial government shutdown.

- Numerous members of the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that won last weekend's Super Bowl, are not visiting the White House to meet US President Donald Trump.
