- VACC Chairman Dante Jimenez said that former dengue patients who were able to receive the anti-dengue vaccine Dengvaxia remain at risk against the possible side effects of the vaccine. Previously, Sanofi Pasteur assured that patients who are seropositive, or those who have contracted dengue before, will no longer be in danger of contracting the disease again. However, Jimenez revealed that VACC has tended to patients who had already incurred the disease but were still admitted to the hospital after gaining several dengue symptoms.
- Katarina Rodriguez from the Philippines was named 1st runner up at the recently concluded Miss Intercontinental event in Egypt, where Veronica Salas Vallejo from Mexico won the title.
- President Rodrigo Duterte named Prospero De Vera III as officer-in-charge for the Commission on Higher Education. He will temporarily take over the position vacated by former CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan who resigned last Jan. 15, after allegedly receiving a call from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea asking her to quit her post.
