- Right now, the Supreme Court is holding oral arguments on the four petitions filed against the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.

- Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno challenged the Congress to file her impeachment case right now. Lawyer Josa Deinla, one of Sereno’s spokespersons, cited the public pronouncements of Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and House justice committee chair and Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali indicating prejudgment of the charges in the complaint filed by lawyer Lorenzo Gadon.

- The Securities and Exchange Commission Chairperson Teresita Herbosa said she is ready to defend a ruling to revoke the business registration of online news site Rappler over issues of foreign ownership. On Monday, SEC released to the media a ruling ordering the closure of Rappler over questions on foreign ownership.

- As the entire USA honors Martin Luther King Day, Fox News, earlier this morning, local time, deliberately misleads about MLK with a headline that reads "Please stop politicizing Martin Luther King Day. It's a day for national unity, not political division."

- One of the world's largest diamond found in a mine in Lesotho weighs 910 carats, which costs tens of millions of dollars. It is the fifth-largest gem-quality diamond ever found and the largest in Lesotho's history. It weighs more than a baseball and more than half as much as the average male human heart.

- Dolores O'Riordan, the lead vocalist of The Cranberries, passed away at the age of 46.

- The new Honda executive midsize saloon that is not available in Japan has won the North American Car of the Year with the new Lincoln Navigating winning Truck of the Year and the Volvo XC60 as Utility of the Year.

- Mercedes-AMG welcomes the new "53" line of cars featuring a new 3.0L V6 BiTurbo enginr with an electric auxiliary compressor mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and the fully variable all-wheel drive system AMG Performance 4MATIC+. The first of the cars are the new E53 Coupe and Cabriolet and the CLS53.

- The new-generation RAM 1500 pickup has been unveiled at the NAIAS featuring an all-new eTorque system delivers improved fuel efficiency in both V-6 and V-8 configurations.
