THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: US President Trump's speech at the National Assembly
US President Donald Trump warned North Korea against its nuclear program and human rights abuses at his speech to South Korea's National Assembly.
Trump called for joint efforts to isolate the North, stressing that the world could not tolerate the regime that threatens it with its nuclear program. He used much of the speech to hail South Korea's achievement. The speech was made a day after he held talks with South Korean leader Moon Jae-in.
It is the first to the country's parliament by a sitting US president in 24 years. Trump becomes the seventh US leader to do so. It is the only parliamentary address that he is giving during his five-nation tour of Asia.
Prior to his speech, Trump sat down for a brief chat with parliamentary speaker Chung Sye-kyun, and the floor leaders of country's ruling and opposition parties.
Meanwhile, both of the leaders sat down for their third one-on-one and an extended summit on Tuesday, the first day of President Trump's two-day state visit to South Korea. Meeting for their third bilateral summit in the past five months alone South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump kicked off their first summit talks in Seoul yesterday.
As far as North Korea is concerned, both leaders appeared determined to stress common ground. North Korea wasn't the only issue discussed by both sides.
Everything from further advancing the two nations' ties to renegotiating a five-year-old trade document between the two were thoroughly examined.
