Let's Do The News! (November 8, 2016)


- The Supreme Court on Tuesday decided to allow the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City. The magistrates voted 9-5 to dismiss the consolidated petitions arguing that Marcos' burial at the Heroes' Cemetery would be a "grave injustice" to victims of martial rule, which he oversaw as president. Because of the dismissal, the status quo ante on the order for the Department of National Defense to prepare to bury Marcos at the heroes' cemetery.

- President Rodrigo Duterte was probably joking when he announced that he would buy missiles from Russia, according to his spokesperson. Duterte said yesterday that there is no rush for the Philippines to buy firearms and ammunition because the government is already talking peace with rebel groups. Duterte is known for being sarcastic to confuse the media whether he is issuing a policy statement or just kidding.

- Three years have passed since Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) hit the Visayan parts of the Philippines and over 200,000 families are still in makeshift shelters without power and water.

- Jose E. B. Antonio, the founder of Century Properties Group Inc., and business partner of billionaire and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, was named as a special envoy to the United States. President Duterte appointed Antonio as special envoy to the US last October 28 and his mission is to enhance business ties and strengthen the economic affairs between the two countries.

- The COP22 Climate Change Summit in Marrakesh, Morocco is underway as the annual meeting allows delegates to discuss the Paris Treaty, which aims to keep global temperature increase below 2°C. The outgoing President, Ségolène Royal, announced that 100 countries have signed the Paris Agreement, which came into force on 4 November.

- Watch as the Range Rover Sport takes on the Inferno ski course at 96mph.



- Audi was caught by the CARB for their use of emission-cheating devices used on their vehicles. The cheating devices, this time, alters its gear shifts.

- Tesla Motors will discontinue their free, forever Supercharger program starting 2017, meaning new Tesla owners will have limited free access to its fast-charging network.
