- President Rodrigo Duterte's Maguindanao arrival was markedly more of a family reunion with soldiers and the ruling Mangudadatu clan in the province than a traditional presidential sortie. Officers and enlisted personnel of the Army's 6th Infantry Division gave the president a rousing applause when he praised them for their peace-building programs, complementing the government's peace overture with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, during a session in Camp Siongco in Datu Odin town.

- As the Democratic National Convention draws near, presumptive Democratic presidentiable Hillary Clinton has named Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate in the US presidential elections.

- Authorities said the 18-year-old German-Iranian gunman behind Friday's Munich attack that killed 9 people was carrying over 300 bullets. The shooting spree took place near a shopping mall in the northwestern part of the city. Police told reporters that 8 of the 9 were killed were between 14 to 20 years of age. The say the gun man appears to have acted alone. He was born in the city and has no terrorist connections were found in his home but articles of past incidents that indiscriminately targeted civilians were found.

- Spanish actor Andreas Munoz is currently in the Philippines to promote the Filipino-produced historical biopic titled Ignacio De Loyola. Directed by Paolo Dy, the film features an all-Spanish cast which includes Javier Godino, Isabel Garcia Lorca, Pepe Ocio, and Julio Perillan. It was produced by the Jesuit Communication Foundation, and co-presented by the Jesuit Conference of Asia PAcific and One Meralco Foundation. Muoz plays as the titular role of St.Ignacio De Loyola, a Spanish knight who later established the Jesuits.

- The BBC announced a TV adaptation of the legendary Les Miserables novel.
