THREATS FROM NORTH KOREA: Workers' Party Congress ends

North Korea held a ceremony to mark the end of its Workers' PArty congress, the first in over three decades. The closing ceremony kicked off at 1025 hours, local time, at Kim Il-Sung Square in Pyongyang. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was greeted by ten thousands of residents while being bestowed with the newly-created title.

North Korea's Korean Central Television reported that Kim Jong-un was elected as chairman of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea and his promotion is seen as a move to dominate the party and solidify his power.

Also, the congress elected two more standing members of the ruling party's political bureau, Pak Pong-ju and Choe Ryong-hae, raising the number of the standing members to five including the North Korean leader, Kim Yong-nam, and Hwang Pyong-seo.
