Let's Do The News! (February 18, 2016)


- The ASEAN leaders and US President Barack Obama issued a joint declaration yesterday, expressing stronger commitment to keeping peace in the South China Sea and protecting freedom of navigation and over flight. Although the 17-point Sunnylands Declaration didn't mention the People's Republic of China, the declaration was apparently addressing the Asian power, which has been aggressively staking its claims in the South China Sea, including building artificial islands.

- COMELEC said it is seeking a possible violation of election rules by Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, who is set for his final battle against Tim Bradley this April during the campaign season.

- The People's Reform Party, the part of presidential aspirant Miriam Defensor-Santiago, asked the COMELEC for a resolution on the omission of its name from the printing of official ballots. The party cited photographs during last Monday's press briefing which showed that PRP was omitted from the official ballot for the May 9, 2016 elections.

- 28 people killed in a powerful explosion in the center of the Turkish capital Ankara. Security authorities said it was an attack targeting military vehicles. The blast occurred after 1830 hours local time in an area where parliament and military headquarters are located. No one claimed responsibility for the blast. Last year, over 100 people killed in the capital when two suicide bombers blew themselves during a rally, Turkish authorities said the bombers were linked to ISIS. 

- Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to intensify the fight against terrorists following the deadly Ankara explosion. The Turkish leader postponed his trip to Azerbaijan planned for Thursday. He said Turkey's determination to fight those who carried out the attack, as well as the forces behind it, will be intensified every time.

- Four cities have submitted their bids to host the 2024 Summer Olympics with the International Olympic Committee. These cities are Paris, Rome, Los Angeles, and Budapest and they've delivered their first bid files focusing on vision, games concept, and strategy.

- From the creators of the Speedster and the Low Drag GT, Eagle unveiled the new Spyder GT, combining style and performance of the two models.

- Lovelivers, rejoice. The once-favorite Love Live! School Idol Festival app game gets enlarged for arcade fun as the all new School Idol Festival -afterschool activity- arcade game, in collaboration with Square Enix, has been unveiled with its first teaser. There will be a demo run happening in major Japanese cities beginning from March to May.



- Reports state that New Line Cinema is negotiating to pick up the rights for the upcoming live-action film reboot of Osamu Tezuka's legendary Astro Boy anime and they've hired Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore (who's in charge from last year's disaster flick San Andreas) to write the script. It will be produced by Animal Logic Entertainment, Tezuka Productions, and Ranger 7 Films.

- In case you missed the recent Eat Bulaga kalyeserye, it's AlDub's 31st Weeksary and Lola Nidora brought back Director Soxie Topacio to do some more workshopping! Some gibberish included. (gibberish)?! (gibberish).
