Let's Do The News! (October 9, 2015)

- Syrian government forces, backed by Russia, launched a massive offensive against terrorist groups and liberate areas that have suffered from the rebels' scourge and crimes. Last month, Russian forces launched airstrikes in Syria for the state purpose of eliminating Islamic State militants.

- According to the Doctors Without Borders, 33 people are missing after a US-led airstrike struck their hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan. Last week's airstrike killed 22 people and US President Barack Obama apologized for the incident, saying the military attacked the hospital by mistake.

- Preparations for North Korea's celebration for the 70th anniversary of the nation's Workers' Party tomorrow are underway as the nation's capital, Pyongyang, is gearing up for a major military parade and other festivities. Sources told that a possible ICBM launch may coincide the event, but so far, no specific signs of preparations.

- PAGASA warns that at least seven more typhoons will hit the Philippines until the end of 2015.

- Optical Media Board Chairman Ronnie Ricketts asked the Sandiganbayan to quash the graft charges against him as he pointed to his deputy who he said should be liable for the alleged pullout of seized pirated discs five years ago.

- FIFA president Sepp Blatter was provisionally suspended for 90 days as well as VP Michel Platini, who runs UEFA, and Secretary General Jerome Valcke, for the same length of time. Swiss authorities are conducting a criminal investigation against them over alleged misappropriation of funds.

- Spanish authorities are seeking a jail sentence of 22 months for soccer star Lionel Messi over a tax fraud case. Spain's tax authorities charged Messi and his father two years ago with defrauding the Spanish state and failed to pay over four million euro tax on income from image rights between 2007 and 2009.

- Yesterday, legendary Philippine singer Elizabeth Ramsey, died at the age of 83. It was confirmed by singer and her daughter Jaya via Facebook. - You may remember that in the recent Eat Bulaga kalyeserye, Maine "Yaya Dub" Mendoza put on a disguise alongside the Da Explorer sisters to avoid getting spotted by Yaya Dub's mom, Isadora. Looks like her disguise is not just limited to the recent kalyeserye antics because she went to a Lifehouse concert last night using the said disguise because she's not invited. What's even more surprising is that she's not the only one spotted at a concert. It's Showtime's Pastillas Girl Angelica Jane Yap was present as well.

- Speaking of Pastillas Girl, looks like ABS-CBN's variety show, It's Showtime, is in hot water right now over an accusation that they are pimping Angelica Jane Yap on the "Nasaan Ka, Mr. Pastillas?" segment. Women's rights group Gabriela called it in their complaint against the variety show "unfair and irresponsible, but also hurtful and offensive to women like Angelica".

TTFN!!!
