Top Gear USA S04E07

The world of tomorrow, today. The boys at Top Gear USA are comparing three of the latest compact electric cars. Rut opts in for the Nissan Leaf, while Tanner opts for the Ford Focus Electric, and Adam goes for the Fiat 500e.

The first challenge involves on a drag race at the Milan Dragway against the Camaro ZL1 and since their compacts can't stand the chance, the boys switched for electric-powered drag racers; an electric S10, an electric Porsche, and an electric dragster.

Adam and the electric S10 made it a second slower than a ZL1 while Rut in an electric Porsche done it quicker. As for Tanner and the EV dragster, consider this a win for Tanner.

With Tanner won the EV drag challenge in different cars, it's back to the compacts and onto the next challenge involving the reverse speed record. Tanner did it in 20mph reverse on the Focus Electric while Adam and the 500e done it in 27mph and as for Rut and the Leaf, it's a record breaking 57mph! 57MPH in reverse! Leaf takes a first win in the challenge.

Next stop...the mall! The boys will drive their cars through the mall without being caught by Segway-riding mall cops. After hours of mall ruckus, Rut escaped first while Tanner's second to escape and Adam is the last to get out of the mall alive.

With the Leaf secured two wins in this episode, the next challenge involves how quiet these electric cars are by sneaking out the house and drive their cars out in the neighborhood without making much noise. Even though the Focus Electric was made for silence, the tire noise issue caused him much ruckus. Just before Rut escape the house, his idea of a ladder escape caused him even more ruckus as well as slamming the door of the Leaf before setting off. Adam and the 500e never done this whole discreet challenge very well.

Despite that, Rutledge Wood is the overall winner and the key person to power test Tesla's electric sports saloon, the Model S.

The Tesla Model S is one of the most high-tech EV sports saloon in the market but the question is...is the Model S capable to outrun the Camaro ZL1?

In a drag race, yes but only just though. But how corner-worthy is the Model S against the MB S-Class AMG? While the S-Class set a 1:15 lap time, the Model S, with The Stig at the wheel, did it in 1:12! 3 seconds quicker!!!

With the Tesla Model S, this electric premium saloon proves that the world of tomorrow really is...now.
